Tim Scott expects Trump to make pick for vice president in ‘next 60 days or so’

.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) believes former President Donald Trump will publicly announce his running mate within the next two months.

The South Carolina senator, who unsuccessfully ran for the GOP’s presidential nomination, said on Meet The Press that he believes the former president will ultimately make the announcement in about 60 days, which would be in early July. The Republican National Convention is slated to begin on July 15 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

“We’ll be making that decision, I think, closer to Wisconsin time, if you want to know the truth,” Trump told a local Fox affiliate in Wisconsin earlier this week. “It’s very early right now.”

Several likely vice presidential candidates appeared alongside Trump this weekend during the Republican National Committee’s spring retreat. The president highlighted Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-R), Sen. Marco Rubio (FL-R), Rep. Byron Donalds (FL-R), Sen. JD Vance (OH-R), Scott and Gov. Doug Burgum (ND-R), among others, according to CNN.

“I certainly expect to have a decision from President Trump in the next 60 days or so,” Scott said, also noting that the topic did not come up between him and Trump during the GOP donor retreat in West Palm Beach this weekend.

The South Carolina senator repeatedly refused to state that he would accept the results of the 2024 presidential election regardless of who wins.

“At the end of the day, the 47th president of the United States will be President Donald Trump,” Scott said, when asked directly whether he would commit to accepting the election results, and when pressed by Kristen Welker, he added, “That is my statement.”
